A successful shift from pinch valves to Ramén KS Ball Sector Valve in a high-demand application
This case study explores a successful transition from traditional pinch valves to the more robust Ramén Ball Sector Valve (KS-40/32-1E) in a demanding application, resulting in a significant increase in operational durability and performance.
Application: Control of lime
Fluid: Calcium carbonate + Water
State of fluid: Slurry
Percentage of water in mixture: 30%
Inlet pressure: 40 psig (275 kPag)
Outlet pressure: 35 psig (241 kPag)
Flow rate: aprox 1 to 6 m3/h
Particle size: 40 um to 800 um
Abrasive yes or no: Yes
Operating temperature: 40 to 80ºC
Background
The client operated in an environment where valves were exposed to harsh, abrasive conditions. Initially, they used pinch valves for controlling the flow of slurries.
Challenge
The primary issue faced by the client was the rapid deterioration of the pinch valves. The pinching device was destroyed, and the sleeve eroded, requiring the valves to be replaced or repaired after only two months of use.
Result
To address this challenge, we installed the Ramén Ball Sector Valve (KS-40/32-1E) in place of the traditional pinch valves. It was specifically selected for its proven resistance to wear and ability to handle abrasive slurries effectively.
By switching to the Ramén Ball Sector Valve, the client was able to extend the service life of their valves dramatically, from just two months with the pinch valve to over several years without maintenance intervention. The increased reliability and resilience of the KS valve successfully enhanced both the efficiency and productivity of their operations.
