Production of TDI (Toluene diisocyanate)

An Indian producer of chemicals and fertilizers had built a new production plant for TDI, Toluene diisocyanate. TDI is used in the production of Polyurethane which in turn is used in the production of polyester based soft foam, high bearing sponges, furniture, packing material etc. The production involves many different chemicals but the main part is Toluenes, Nitric acids and Sulphur acids. These chemicals put high demands on the quality of pipes and valves.

The technical solution

For this application, the Ramén Ball Sector Valve type KS was the perfect choice. It has been constructed for aggressive and abrasive services. In this project the Ramén KS control valve is manually operated and it is used both as on-off valve and to adjust flow. The dimension varies from DN25 to DN200. Due to the hazardous media Ramén supplied hard chromed ball sectors and stellite seats. Different elastomers such as Viton, Kalrez, Vitoflon were used in o-rings etc.
