Flame arrestors

A flame arrestor (also spelled arrester) is a device that stops fuel combustion by extinguishing the flame. It allows gas and vapor to pass through but stops a flame in order to prevent a larger fire or explosion. There is an enormous variety of situations in which flame arrestors can be applied to decrease risk and improve the safety aspects. For example they can be used in fuel storage tank vents and fuel gas pipelines.

These products are usually divided into detonation and deflagration flame arrestors. Basically, the difference in the construction of the two devices has to do with the speed of the flame front that can develop inside the pipe. Any flame front that is traveling faster than the speed of sound is said to be a detonation while anything slower is termed a deflagration.

The Model 6A00 inline deflagration flame arrestor is a device that can be fitted to the opening of an enclosure or to the connecting pipe work of a system of enclosures. Its primary function is to allow the flow of gases or vapor of flammable liquids through the enclosure, but prevent the transmission of a flame. The element inside the housing provides an extinguishing barrier to the ignited vapor mixture by absorbing heat from the flame. The Model 6A00 is used as an independent safety system to ensure explosion protection.

The Model 6A00 is designed, manufactured, and tested according to Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX114) and ISO 16852.

The Model 6E00 end-of-line deflagration flame arrestor is a device that can be fitted directly on a vessel, tank vent nozzle, or on the end of a vent line. Its primary function is to allow the flow of gases or vapor of flammable liquids through the enclosure, but prevent the transmission of a flame from the outside. The element inside the housing provides an extinguishing barrier to the ignited vapor mixture by absorbing heat from the flame. The Model 6E00 is used as an independent safety system to ensure explosion protection.

The Model 6E00 is designed, manufactured, and tested according to Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX114) and ISO 16852.

The Model 7A00 detonation flame arrestor is a device that can be fitted to the opening of an enclosure or to the connecting pipe work of a system of enclosures. Its primary function is to allow the flow of gases or vapor of flammable liquids through the enclosure, but prevent the transmission of a flame. The element inside the housing provides an extinguishing barrier to the ignited vapor mixture by absorbing heat from the flame.
